ABEE's comprehensive training covers technical instruction for general course operations, activity sequencing, liability considerations, course maintenance, equipment care, ACCT Standard Interpretation, skill teaching, and written and skills testing.
Level 1 Certification
A Level 1 Certification is designed for people who are new to the industry and are seeking the training needed to facilitate a Challenge Course program. This certification also enables the client to grow as they gain more experience. This certification will last for 1 year.
Requirements to participate and complete a Level 1 Certification:
- Must be at least 18 years or older.
- Be able to complete a minimum 40-hour training for a Level 1 Full certification track OR 20-hours minimum for low or high only.
- Pass a written test with a score of at least 80%.
- Pass a skills test.
Level 2 Certification
A Level 2 Certification is for anyone seeking an advanced level of certification. This level reflects the clients experience and training which will provide leadership to other staff; it is not designed to prepare the client to train other staff. This certification will last for 3 years.
Requirements to participate and complete a Level 2 Certification:
- Must be at least 18 years or older.
- Completed a Level 1 Certification.
- Completed training portfolio documenting at least 200 hours of facilitation experience as a Level 1 Facilitator.
- Be able to complete an additional 40-hour training for a Level 2 Full certification track OR 24-hours minimum for low or high only.
- Pass a written test with a score of at least 80%.
- Pass a skills test.
CM (Course Manager) Certification
This certification is designed to give a currently certified facilitator management training in order to supervise others, write local operating procedures, perform internal inspections and maintenance, mentor staff, and develop plans for in-house trainings. Every Adventure Course must have a Course Manager BUT please understand that it is not necessary that a company has a "Certified" Course Manager. This certification will last for 5 years.
Requirements to participate and complete a Course Manager (CM) Certification:
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Possess a current Level 2 Certification.
- Completed training portfolio documenting 500-hours of experience.
- Participate in a 30-hour training of which at least 16-hours will be specific to course management.
- Pass a written test with a score of at least 80%.
- Pass a skills test.
Site-Specific Certification
A site-specific training includes all of the knowledge and skills necessary to facilitate specific activities at a specific site. It is possible for participants to be certified in only certain activities on a program site or a site with similar operating systems. However, this limits them to only work on these activities as a facilitator. This is a desirable training for facilitators who do not plan to work at other sites with different operating systems, as skills learned in this certification are not transferable to other operating systems / elements. This certification will last for 1 year.
Requirements to complete a Site Specific Certification:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Minimum of 8-hours covering initial curriculum.
- Pass a written test with a score of at least 80%.
- Pass a skills test.
